James and I did a bus tour of the "red zone" which is the inner city which is still cordoned off in November and it was very sad to see a once thriving city centre reduced to rubble, overgrown weeds and grass and ge gaps where buildings were. Here are some pictures below to give you an idea of what it was/is like in some areas of my city, along with the outfit I wore to work today - black and red the colours of Canterbury.
What we came home to on February 22 2011
Our house - to the left behind the bench smashed glasses & plas everywhere
A once thriving Hotel/Pub ripped to shreds
Cracks on the outside of our old home
Beutiful old Church where lots of weddings were held
Overgrown grass in central chch - the PGC building that collapsed & killed many was beside the building to the left
A devastated building
Where that dirt is used to be a block of shops - when I worked in the area we used to get hot chips for lunch at one of the shops
My outfit today - Heels - Cotton On, Top - Warehouse, Skirt - Glassons, Tights - Farmers
On a positive note we are all looking forward to the future here in Christchurch - after all we are going to get a brand new city centre at some stage! I will see you tomorrow with an outfit post.
Happy Wednesday Lovelies xxx
That's so sad :( I'm so sorry that that happened to you guys! It's so weird to see photos of it and know that it actually happened, and that it's not just something from the movies! I love your outfit, that necklace is really purrrdy :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect outfit for today.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy isn't it? It feel like a life time and like it was yesterday all at the same time.
I didn't get to go to the memorial, I wish I could have.
One of my workmates really struggled today - she was on high st at the time (you can just imagine what she saw & experienced)
I can still picture everything exactly as it was, watching the doco tonight was a big reminder just how devasting it really was.

I didnt realise that Doco was on so missed it, will have to get the DVD. It does feel like it was a long time ago yet still so fresh....a few of my workmates struggled too as some were away for lunch down manchester st and saw things you wouldnt wish on anyone...glad I didnt see anything like that!
DeleteA great cantab supporting outfit! It was so strange being up there in January & seeing places I had visted before in piles of rubble. I saw some photos of the restaurant in the band rotunda which was badly damaged, I remember going to visit my friend who worked there a few years ago and thinking what a beautiful place for a restaurant. Good on you guys for staying in Chch and continuing on with life - I'm not sure I would be able to do the same :)

We're a strong bunch! Even though Ive only been a Cantab for 6 years haha. My work was near that restaurant - never got to go there, bugger...lol
DeleteThat is so so sad to see and I cannot even imagine. I hope that the city slowly gets back on its feet and its amazing that nothing happened to you.
